Coimbra Space Summer School culminates in Pampilhosa da Serra

Campeão das Províncias1 September 2026 at 10:22

The 12th edition of the Coimbra Space Summer School takes place between September 2 and 4, in Coimbra, and ends in Pampilhosa da Serra. The initiative is promoted by the Instituto Pedro Nunes within the European Space Agency incubator (ESA BIC Centro).

This year's programme is inspired by the Artemis-II mission, the first crewed journey to fly by the Moon since Apollo 17. The edition challenges higher education students, researchers, entrepreneurs and other participants to develop solutions related to lunar exploration and the space economy.

Over three days, participants work in multidisciplinary teams, accompanied by national and international mentors and specialists. The work areas include human health protection in extreme environments, deep space communications, lunar mineral resource prospecting and long-duration crewed mission logistics.

The initiative culminates with a business ideas competition, in which the teams present their proposals to a jury of specialists. The closing takes place in Pampilhosa da Serra, where participants have contact with aerospace sector infrastructures, including the Porto da Balsa space observatory.
