Jazz em Monserrate bets on the connection between music and nature with new workshops

Sintra Notícias1 September 2026 at 10:12

The Jazz em Monserrate festival returns to Monserrate Park and Palace with an edition that combines music and nature, intending to bring the public closer to the importance of biodiversity preservation. Promoted by Parques de Sintra, with support from the "la Caixa" Foundation, BPI and Sintra Municipality, the event has artistic direction by Inês Laginha and is themed "Other Times," exploring jazz as a way of inhabiting time through improvisation, dialogue and listening.

This edition includes, for the first time, workshops dedicated to the conservation of natural heritage. On Friday, September 11, at 5:00 PM, the workshop on pollinators takes place, led by beekeeper Telmo Cabral, who has collaborated since 2023 with Parques de Sintra on the apiary project in the Serra de Sintra. On Saturday, September 12, at 4:30 PM, Mauro Pereira will lead a workshop on fruit tree grafting, and on Sunday, September 13, at 3:30 PM, Sílvia Floresta will speak about mushroom production.

The musical program features names such as Daniel Bernardes, Becca Stevens, João Barradas Trio with Jonathan Kreisberg, Rita Maria, Angélica Salvi and Mateus Saldanha, as well as Jazz for Babies sessions, musical cinema, jam sessions and a masterclass. Participation in the workshops is free for festival ticket holders, subject to prior registration.

For João Sousa Rego, president of the Board of Directors of Parques de Sintra, biodiversity and ecological balance are "fundamental axes" of the company's actions, intending to bring the community closer to the challenges of nature conservation and show solutions that can be applied in everyday life.
