Seven questions to Inês Lourenço

Correio do Porto1 September 2026 at 21:00

Inês Lourenço is a writer born in the parish of Santo Ildefonso, in Porto, where she was born on November 7, 1942 and continues to reside. She graduated in Modern Languages and Literatures (Portuguese Studies) from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, having previously attended Escola Preparatória Clara de Resende and Escola Comercial Filipa de Vilhena.

The interview, originally published on January 8, 2014 and which was conducted by Paulo Moreira Lopes, presents seven questions about the author's life and trajectory. Regarding the influence of the place where she lives on her creative work, Inês Lourenço mentions that in her poetry, to which she devotes herself preferentially, there are numerous references to the city of Porto, including place names, bridges, squares, cafés, symbolic places, characters and animals.

The author describes her writing as full of an Atlantic and northern atmosphere, with secular marks. She also highlights that the city of Porto, being at the origin of Portuguese nationality, constitutes in itself a source of continuous inspiration, given that the interaction between space and time offers constant motives for creative contemplation.
