The Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo has already exceeded 6,000 confirmed cases and caused at least 2,911 deaths, according to the latest data. The outbreak is considered by health authorities as one of the most complex and difficult to control that the country has ever faced.
The main difficulties in combating the disease include persistent insecurity in the region, which hinders health teams' access to affected areas, and constant population movements, which facilitate the spread of the virus to new areas.
The lack of health professionals on the ground also represents a significant challenge for the humanitarian response, limiting the capacity for contact tracing and for providing care to infected patients.
