Prison services have prohibited the entry of muscle growth supplements, such as creatine, in prisons. The decision was made by the Prison Services and aims to prevent these products from entering prison facilities.
The prohibition is based on two main reasons: the difficulty in distinguishing these supplements from other drugs, and the risk of them being used as a means of extortion and coercion among inmates. Prison authorities consider that creatine can be easily confused with illicit substances.
The order establishing this prohibition was signed by Orlando Carvalho, director-general of the Directorate-General for Prison Services. The measure comes in a context of strengthening security rules within Portuguese prisons.
