Portugal secured its first ever gold medal in football at the Mediterranean Games by defeating Italy 4-0 in the final of the women's under-18 tournament, held in Taranto.
Player Rita Oliveira was the standout performer of the match, scoring two goals (a brace) during the final, contributing decisively to the Portuguese rout.
The Portuguese women's under-18 national team thus achieved a historic feat, becoming the first Portuguese football team to stand at the top of the podium at the Mediterranean Games.
The tournament took place in the Italian city of Taranto, where Portugal demonstrated superiority throughout the entire final against the host Italian team.
