PS demands criteria from the Government on the creation of six strategic business areas

oRegiões1 September 2026 at 07:00

The Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party submitted a formal question in the Assembly of the Republic demanding from the Government urgent clarification regarding the selection criteria for the six new strategic business areas. Socialist MPs contest the total exclusion of the Algarve region from this investment map, considering the lack of transparency in the territorial choices concerning.

The government plan provides for the installation of two infrastructures in the North, two in the Centre, one in the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon, and one in the interior of Alentejo. The PS questions the objective reason for the absence of the Algarve and demands the immediate disclosure of technical, territorial, environmental, and logistical requirements, as well as clarification regarding the existence of prior demand and feasibility studies for each chosen area.

The socialist bench also raises doubts about the powers attributed to the Regional Coordination and Development Commissions in the final definition of the land. The MPs intend to understand whether municipalities and intermunicipal communities can formally submit applications for these logistics platforms, demanding the definition of a public calendar for the submission of municipal proposals.

The PS also demands the determination of the total amount of public and private investment planned, as well as the financing model and the distribution of costs between the State Budget, community funds, and municipal budgets. The Government announced the goal of replicating areas with dimensions between three and eight square kilometres, operated by Global Parks from AICEP, now having the regulatory deadline to respond to the MPs' questions.
