Tim Cook leaves command of Apple after 15 years; see legacy of CEO and challenges of successor

oglobo1 September 2026 at 04:01

Apple announced on Monday Tim Cook's departure from the company's command after 15 years in office, the first change in command since Steve Jobs' death in 2011. Cook will be replaced by John Ternus, who held the position of senior vice president of hardware engineering since 2021. At 65 years old, Cook leaves the leadership of the company after a period that exceeded in duration the very tenure of the founder of the iPhone manufacturer.

During his management, Cook transformed Apple into a financial powerhouse, raising the company's market value from $350 billion to $4.5 trillion over a decade and a half. Despite this economic success, he will be remembered as a leader who did not deliver a product as revolutionary as the iPhone, originally launched under Jobs' command.

John Ternus assumes the company at a challenging moment, having to lead Apple in the era of artificial intelligence. Among the main challenges are the adaptation of the iPhone to the new demands of AI and the creation of new devices that can keep the company competitive in the global technology market.
