Spain will plant a total of 3.5 million trees to contribute to the European objective of sowing 3 billion additional trees, according to a first estimate. This is one of the measures included in the National Nature Restoration Plan project.
The announcement was made by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO) on a Monday. The Spanish Government sent the plan to the European Commission on that same day.
The initiative is part of a broader effort at the European level to restore nature through the massive planting of trees. Spain's contribution represents a significant part of the European commitment to expand forest areas on the continent.
