Italy is preparing a new Highway Code that will include fines for pedestrians who cross the road while looking at their phones. This revision of the code is expected to be approved by mid-October.
The fines will start at 75 euros, according to the British newspaper The Guardian. The measure is part of an attempt by the Italian Ministry of Transport to reduce accidents caused by distractions. The goal is to prevent situations where pedestrians are not paying attention to traffic due to the use of electronic devices.
