The President of the Republic, António José Seguro, promulgated the Parliament decree on granting asylum, detention and return of foreigners. The head of State's decision comes following a ruling by the Constitutional Court that decided the diploma was not unconstitutional.
The Constitutional Court issued its ruling on Friday, with the Presidency of the Republic today disclosing the information about the promulgation through a note published on its website.
António José Seguro had previously requested the preventive review of constitutionality of some provisions of the decree, which led to the analysis by the Constitutional Court before promulgation.
The decree addresses issues related to the asylum granting regime in Portugal, as well as the rules for detention and return of foreigners, having been approved by Parliament before proceeding to promulgation by the President of the Republic.
