The Police Professionals Trade Union Association (ASPP/PSP) announced that it will convene its leadership on September 10 to define new protests at the national level against the lack of response from the Government. The president of ASPP/PSP, Paulo Santos, pointed out that there are "glaring problems in the police," including stations without resources, absence of patrol cars, and absence of community policing, with the possibility of police returning "to take to the streets" for "a democratic police at the service of the population" not being ruled out.
The union structure criticized the lack of response from the Ministry of Internal Administration, stating that the ministry cancelled negotiation meetings that had already been scheduled and that had been guaranteed by the Government in 2024. ASPP/PSP attributes responsibilities to the Government and to parties with governmental responsibilities, accusing them of "disinvestment in the PSP" due to incompetence or due to "trivialization in the face of social, functional, and criminal changes," also pointing directly at the prime minister for what it considers to be the "non-compliance with the word, the commitment, and the agreement reached."
The national directorate of the PSP was also targeted in the statement, being accused of "total alignment with governmental errors" and of revealing "total inability to demonstrate the error of bad choices," including on matters within its own responsibility. Local authorities were also criticized by the union organization, which considers that some municipal officials "now demand public policies and personnel," despite having sponsored policies that "deprived the PSP of operational capacity."
Faced with the current scenario, ASPP/PSP demands an increase in PSP staffing to allow for a preventive and community-based model, "real pay improvements and dignification of careers," as well as "real and effective consultation, union negotiation, and implementation of structural measures." The association also condemns what it considers to be "propaganda" and the "falsification and whitening of reality."
