Road traffic on IC1 was resumed in the municipality of Santiago do Cacém after a scrubland fire affected the road. The blaze, which broke out in vegetation, forced the temporary closure of the section, but the road was reopened when the situation was brought under control.
Three female firefighters from the Alvalade corporation suffered minor injuries due to trauma during the firefighting efforts. The three operatives were taken to the Hospital do Litoral Alentejano, located in Santiago do Cacém, to receive medical care.
Authorities confirmed that there were no houses at risk during the fire, meaning the local population was not directly threatened by the flames. This information was reported by the entities that monitored the incident on the ground.
The IC1 is an important national road in the Litoral Alentejo region, and its temporary closure had an impact on traffic in the area during the period when authorities were working at the scene.
