The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, promulgated the Foreigners Law after receiving the green light from the Constitutional Court. The judges of the Ratton Palace validated the norms of the law, which had been examined regarding their conformity with the Constitution.
The law establishes specific criteria to prevent the departure of children born in Portugal, regulating the conditions under which minors born in national territory may be prevented from leaving the country.
The legislation also addresses the issue of loss of international protection, defining the procedures and conditions for the cessation of this status in the cases provided for by law.
