President promulgates "Law of Return" after Constitutional Court green light

The President of the Republic promulgated the "Law of Return" after the Constitutional Court gave the green light to the bill. The court's decision allowed the text to be promulgated by the President.

The Head of State had requested preventive review of several provisions of the new bill. This was a usual measure to ensure constitutional compliance of legislation before its promulgation.

The provisions that received the most attention from the President were those regarding foreign children born in Portugal. The executive had included specific provisions on these cases in the bill approved by the Assembly of the Republic.
