Moraes schedules trial of appeal against Eduardo Bolsonaro's conviction for September

oglobo31 August 2026 at 19:50

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, from the Supreme Federal Court (STF), scheduled the trial of an appeal filed by the Public Defender's Office (DPU) against the conviction of former deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro to four years and two months in prison for the crime of obstruction of justice. The clarification appeals will be analyzed by the First Chamber of the STF in the virtual plenary session between September 11 and 18.

Eduardo Bolsonaro was unanimously convicted by the First Chamber in June. The panel followed Moraes' vote, the rapporteur of the criminal action, and understood that the former deputy acted to intimidate the Supreme Court and interfere in the trial of the criminal action in which his father, former president Jair Bolsonaro, was convicted for attempted coup d'état.

According to the prosecution by the Attorney General's Office (PGR), Eduardo made public statements and acted in the United States seeking the imposition of sanctions against Brazilian authorities, including STF ministers, and economic measures against Brazil.
