SIC presenter João Baião experienced a tense moment during his vacation in Bangkok, Thailand, when a friend accompanying him was approached by authorities while using heated tobacco on the street. The episode occurred at night, when the group was walking through the city and was intercepted by two police officers.
According to the account made by João Baião on SIC's program "Casa Feliz" on Friday, August 28, one of his friends was using heated tobacco, a product whose restrictions in the country the group was unaware of. The situation quickly became serious, with the officers considering taking those involved to the police station. "I saw the case going very badly," the presenter admitted during the broadcast.
The tension was aggravated by the language barrier, as communication in English with the officers did not go smoothly. João Baião recalled that not knowing local legislation does not mean being exempt from complying with it, and mentioned that translation tools on mobile phones can be useful in these situations.
After some time talking with the authorities, the situation was eventually resolved without the group being taken to the police station. However, the products in question were confiscated by the officers. Despite no more serious consequences occurring, João Baião did not hide that he experienced moments of worry during the approach.
