Seguro promulgates the Law on Foreigners and the Granting of Asylum

The President of the Republic promulgated the Law on Foreigners and the Granting of Asylum. Simultaneously, the Head of State requested the Constitutional Court to carry out preventive review of the constitutionality of some norms of the Decree approved by the Assembly of the Republic. This decision indicates that, although the President proceeded with the promulgation of the law, he expressed reservations regarding the constitutional conformity of certain articles of the decree. The request for preventive review allows the Constitutional Court to analyze the questioned norms before the law enters fully into force, thus ensuring that the legislation respects constitutional principles.
