Rui Rocha suggests that self-employed workers register their activity at the prime minister's address [video]

The former president of Iniciativa Liberal and current deputy Rui Rocha published a video on social media, titled "Hands up: this is a robbery," where he accuses the Tax Authority of penalizing self-employed workers who have their professional activity registered at their own home.

In the video, Rui Rocha explains that the difference between the purchase price and the sale price of a house is subject to taxation, but the value reinvested in purchasing a new home can normally benefit from a capital gains exemption. The deputy argues that the Tax Authority has come to understand that self-employed workers with the activity location registered at home cannot benefit from this exemption.

Rui Rocha considers that this understanding finds no support in the law and represents an unjustified penalty for those who work for themselves, classifying the situation as "a brutal attack on self-employed workers." The former IL leader argued that legislation will be needed to clarify this matter.

Until such clarification is made, the deputy ironically advised self-employed workers to indicate "the prime minister's address" instead of their own home, in a political provocation aimed at confronting the head of Government with the consequences of the fiscal interpretation he criticizes. Rui Rocha did not identify in the video any document, decision, or specific case that would motivate the intervention.
