Airbus workers in Spain will continue the indefinite strike after the company's request for a temporary suspension during negotiations was rejected in a vote held on August 31. The suspension was rejected by 81.2% of votes, versus 16.4% in favor and 2.4% abstentions, according to Spanish unions.
Airbus has approximately 14,000 workers distributed across the factories in Getafe, Illescas, Albacete, Cádiz and the Tablada and San Pablo centers in Seville. The strike began on August 25.
Negotiations are expected to resume on Tuesday, September 1, through the Interconfederal Mediation and Arbitration Service, although the company has conditioned the continuation of negotiations on the suspension of the strike. In Thursday's meeting, Airbus Spain's management rejected the salary increase proposal presented by the unions, despite having improved its initial offer.
In an internal statement cited by the EFE news agency, the company defended its most recent proposal, which includes indexing salaries to inflation and a 7.6% increase distributed over five years, a 0.5% increase for annual salary review and 0.5% for promotions, plus an exceptional payment of 2,000 euros. Airbus warned that the continuation of the strike creates a critical situation for both the business and customers.
