Prison services ban entry of supplements like creatine in prisons

RTP Notícias31 August 2026 at 17:50

Prison services have decided to ban the entry of muscle growth supplements, such as creatine, into prisons. This measure applies to all prison establishments and aims to restrict inmates' access to these products.

The main reason for this prohibition is related to the difficulties in distinguishing supplements from other drugs. Prison authorities consider that creatine and similar products can easily be confused with illicit substances during searches and security checks.

Additionally, prison services identified an additional risk: the possibility of these supplements being used as a means of extortion and coercion among inmates. Their possession within the prisons could create power dynamics harmful to the security and order in prison establishments.
