Colonel Rogério Paulo Magro Copeto moved to reserve status of the Republican National Guard this Tuesday, September 1st, closing a 35-year military career. A native of Évora, where he was born on September 15th, 1969, the officer will now take on the role of Security Coordinator for the European Capital of Culture Évora 2027, a responsibility associated with the city and the regional dimension of the project in Alentejo. This new professional stage is expected to extend until December 2027.
Throughout his career in the GNR, Rogério Copeto held various command and leadership positions, mostly linked to Alentejo. He commanded the Border Territorial Detachment between 2001 and 2003, the Estremoz Territorial Detachment between 2003 and 2005, and the Évora Territorial Detachment between 2005 and 2010. More recently, he served as second commander and spokesperson for the Évora Territorial Command between 2020 and 2021, commander of the Figueira da Foz Training Center between 2021 and 2022, and deputy inspector of the Guard's Inspectorate between 2022 and 2025.
Graduated from the Military Academy in 1998, in the GNR Weapons specialty, Copeto also holds a postgraduate degree in Advanced Studies in Law and Security from Nova University of Lisbon, completed in 2009, and a master's degree in Law and Security from the same institution, obtained in 2011. His master's dissertation was titled "The Role of Security Forces in the Child and Youth Protection System in Danger." He is also an Internal Security Auditor and director of ANOG.
The move to reserve status represents a significant change in the colonel's career, who in recent years served as advisor to the GNR operational commander, between 2025 and 2026. The security coordination for the European Capital of Culture Évora 2027 thus marks the beginning of a new professional phase, now linked to the preparation and development of this large-scale cultural event.
