Platini criticizes Infantino: 'Did not respect football's rules and must go'

Maisfutebol31 August 2026 at 17:18

Michel Platini, former UEFA president, harshly criticized current FIFA president Gianni Infantino, stating that he "did not respect the rules of football" and that he "must go" from his position. The statements were made by the former French player in a recent interview.

Platini emphasized that Infantino violated fundamental principles of the sport by making decisions without respecting established rules. The former European football chief has been a frequent critic of Infantino's leadership at FIFA.

During the same interview, Platini stated that the true owners of football are the players, specifically referring to the "Mbappés, Maradonas and Zidanes" - the great stars who play the sport rather than those who administer it.

Platini was president of UEFA between 2007 and 2015 and is considered one of the most important figures in the history of European football, both as a player and as a sports administrator.
