The Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security opened 108 vacancies in the social sector to support informal caregivers. These vacancies are part of a pilot project that aims to provide respite to caregivers who accompany people with care needs.
Volunteer support will only be available from September. The programme is present in 18 municipalities across the country, allowing people with care needs to be accompanied in the absence of their usual caregivers.
The planned investment for the current year is over 200 thousand euros. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to support informal caregivers in Portugal.
