Channel Crossings by Migrants in Small Boats Have Been at Their Lowest Since 2019

SAPO1 September 2026 at 00:43

The United Kingdom recorded this summer the lowest number of migrant crossings in small boats across the English Channel since 2019. This was the information announced by the British government, which celebrated the significant reduction in migratory flow through this dangerous route.

The British executive attributed this decrease to the cooperation agreement with France. The partnership between the two countries has been reinforced to try to stop clandestine crossings, which for years represented one of the main concerns regarding immigration for the United Kingdom.

The English Channel is one of the most dangerous migratory routes in Europe, where thousands of migrants attempt to cross annually in small boats, frequently in precarious conditions. The reduction in the number of crossings represents one of the best results recorded in recent years.

The UK government highlighted that these data demonstrate that the implemented policies and international cooperation are producing concrete results in controlling irregular immigration through this maritime route.
