President Lula met on Monday (31st) at the Palace of Alvorada with businessmen responsible for a good part of Brazil's GDP. Among those invited were prominent names such as Joesley Batista (J&F), José Seripieri Júnior (Amil), Rubens Ometto (Cosan), the heirs of José Luís Culturale (known as the King of the Orange), as well as bankers Luiz Carlos Trabuco (Bradesco) and André Esteves (BTG Pactual). The names were confirmed to CBN by government sources.
According to campaign sources, Lula committed to delivering a surplus to solve the public debt problem in an eventual fourth term. The president also asked the businessmen not to stop production, arguing that income will continue to rise and people will continue to buy.
The government intends to reinforce alternatives for productive sectors with lower interest rates, such as those offered to agribusiness. The campaign even considered changing the location for the dinner to avoid accusations of using public machinery for the benefit of the electoral campaign.
