The ESTAU – Estarreja Urban Art Festival 2026 celebrates a decade of existence with its 7th edition, which takes place from September 12 to 20. The program is multidisciplinary and includes mural painting, music, exhibitions, installations, workshops, cinema, theater and community participation proposals, with national and international artists. Music will have a prominent place through the "Sala de Estar" cycle, with concerts by Les A Les, Noiserv & OJE Formação and O GAJO, in different public spaces of the city.
The festival was born to affirm Estarreja as a territory of encounter between art, people and public space, having created an open-air gallery with around 100 pieces of art, between murals and installations, signed by 54 artists, 36 Portuguese and 18 foreign. This free-visit gallery took contemporary creation beyond traditional cultural spaces, bringing it closer to the daily life of communities.
To mark the first decade of operation, ten artistic interventions are planned – murals, installations and community projects – signed by artists such as Theic (Uruguay), Mura (Brazil), Nuno Palhas, Mariana Malhão, Helen Bur (United Kingdom), Isaac Cordal (Spain), Nuno Sarmento, Maze, Roc Blackblock (Spain) and Noiserv. The works revisit dimensions of local heritage, inspired by themes such as the Festas de Santo António, rice, shipbuilding, moliceiro boats and the legacy of Egas Moniz.
Among the participatory proposals, the "Chão Comum" project stands out, which transforms plastic waste into artistic expression material, reinterpreting the tradition of weaving with the involvement of CERCIESTA. The decade celebration will be marked at the Municipal House of Culture with the exhibition "10 years of ESTAU," inaugurated on September 12 at 5:00 PM.
