Over 1,500 properties were left without internet after a series of damages to telecommunications structures recorded overnight between Friday (28) and Saturday (29), in neighborhoods of the Oceanic Region of Niterói. Operator Leste Telecom reported that dozens of points on its network were hit in the neighborhoods of Engenho do Mato, Serra Grande, Maravista, and Parque Rural.
The company stated that the damages include cuts to optical fibers and damage to equipment responsible for signal distribution, with more than one fiber found damaged at some points. The company notified affected users by email and WhatsApp about the service interruption.
Leste Telecom filed a report with the 81st Police Station (Itaipu) and reported that other providers in the region may also have been harmed by the same attacks. The operator points out that criminal groups are advancing in the region and restricting internet availability in Niterói.
The Municipal Integrated Management Office contested surveys conducted by operators about restrictions on internet availability in the city. The article also mentions a previous story about the impact on consumers caused by criminal action against telecommunications infrastructure.
