Lira avoids declaring support for the Presidency: 'I anchor myself in my work'

oglobo31 August 2026 at 16:33

Federal deputy Arthur Lira (PP), Senate candidate for Alagoas, stated during the inauguration of his campaign committee in Maceió that he does not intend to make support for a presidential candidate the main element of his campaign. He also did not reveal who he will support in the presidential race in the first round.

During the event, Lira declared: "There are people who anchor themselves in the president of the Republic. I anchor myself in my work. What I will discuss with Alagoas is what the state needs and what I have brought to Alagoas. My position will be known, as it always has been."

The former president of the Chamber of Deputies highlighted that he intends to focus on discussing the needs of Alagoas and the benefits he has brought to the state during his political trajectory, avoiding linking his campaign to support for any specific candidate to the Palácio do Planalto.

The parliamentarian recalled, however, that PL, the party of presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro, is part of his coalition for the elections in Alagoas.
