MDB reacted to the declared support of pre-candidate Themístocles for Ciro Gomes during a campaign event held on the night of last Friday (28) in Esperantina. The party treated the attitude as an isolated and singular case, minimizing the impact of the disagreement within the party.
Themístocles, by declaring support for Ciro, went against the orientation of the governing coalition, which advocated for a joint vote for candidates Marcelo Castro, from MDB, and Júlio César, from PSD. This rupture generated an immediate reaction from the party leadership.
The episode occurred in Esperantina, a municipality that became the stage for internal tension between allied political forces. MDB's leadership did not rule out possible disciplinary measures, but chose to classify the episode as something isolated.
Themístocles' decision highlights the difficulties in maintaining unity within the governing coalition in Piauí, especially in the period leading up to the elections. The party now seeks to contain the effects of this rupture to maintain the cohesion of the alliance.
