The forecast of heavy rains for the coming days in northern Nepal revived on Monday the fear of new avalanches and floods. Nepal's disaster authority and the Flood Forecast Division issued warnings to communities along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers about the possibility of new floods, after reports of increased water flow upstream.
Although an upstream lake has largely emptied, authorities continue monitoring other water accumulations and debris blockages. The agency warned that new floods and landslides remain possible.
The Nepal Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecasts heavy to very heavy rains in parts of Bagmati Province until September 1, with intense rainfall still possible on September 2.
These rains can cause flash floods, debris flows, landslides and disruptions in affected areas.
