ECMWF model on rain in Portugal: here is its possible distribution until Thursday, September 10

Meteored Portugal31 August 2026 at 15:03

The ECMWF model predicts changes in atmospheric circulation in Portugal over the next ten days, although dry weather should continue to predominate during most of the period. The forecast, which extends until Thursday, September 10, signals two distinct phases of greater instability at the beginning of the month.

The first phase of instability is forecast for Friday, the 4th, and Saturday, the 5th, with the occurrence of showers in the North and Centre regions of the country. After this period, an improvement in weather conditions is expected between Sunday and Tuesday.

A second weather change is forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, September 9th and 10th. This instability will be associated with the approach of an Atlantic front from the Northwest. The positive NAO configuration favors this weather pattern for the beginning of September.

Although an upstream lake has largely emptied, authorities continue monitoring other water accumulations and debris blockages. The Nepal Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecasts heavy to very heavy rains in parts of Bagmati Province until September 1, with intense rainfall also possible on September 2. These rains can cause flash floods, debris flows, landslides and disruptions.
