Three thousand new nurses look for work, but hospitals cannot hire them

Now31 August 2026 at 15:41

Three thousand newly graduated nurses look for work in Portugal, but hospitals cannot hire them. The situation affects both professionals who recently finished their training and those who are about to complete their studies.

The problem is directly related to the lack of approval of the Organizational Development Plans (PDO) for 2026. Without these plans approved, hospitals are not authorized to open new vacancies and proceed with new hires.

The Ministry of Health acknowledges the problem and is working to find a solution that allows hospitals to hire the necessary professionals. The situation is generating frustration among nurses who wish to enter the job market.

A 30-YEAR-OLD CAR STOPS PAYING IUC? IT'S NOT THAT SIMPLE

Owning a 30-year-old car does not automatically mean exemption from payment of the Single Circulation Tax (IUC). Although there are tax exemptions or reductions for classic or collector vehicles, these are subject to specific conditions that go beyond the simple age of the vehicle, such as the state of conservation, assignment to specific purposes, or registration in proper registries. Therefore, owners of older vehicles should carefully check the applicable legal criteria before assuming they are exempt from this tax.
