State records positive balance of 281.7 million in July

Eco31 August 2026 at 15:55

Public accounts returned to surplus in July, with the State recording a positive balance of 281.7 million euros in public accounting. This result represents a decrease of 2,040.1 million euros compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the Budgetary Entity. Revenue grew by more than 7%.

This balance of the Public Administrations was influenced by payments of overdue debts by the National Health Service, resulting from capital reinforcements granted for debt regularization. Until July, these payments totaled 1,426.4 million euros, a value much higher than the 166.7 million euros recorded in 2025.

On the tax and contributory revenue side, the result was also influenced by moratoria and exemption from social security contribution payment for companies affected by storms, according to the Budget Execution.

A 30-YEAR-OLD CAR STOPS PAYING IUC? IT'S NOT THAT SIMPLE

Owning a 30-year-old car does not automatically mean exemption from payment of the Single Circulation Tax (IUC). Although there are tax exemptions or reductions for classic or collector vehicles, these are subject to specific conditions that go beyond the simple age of the vehicle, such as the state of conservation, assignment to specific purposes, or registration in proper registries. Therefore, owners of older vehicles should carefully check the applicable legal criteria before assuming they are exempt from this tax.
