Benfica is about to close a new agreement with Tomás Araújo. The encarnada SAD rejected approaches from top clubs in LaLiga and the Premier League for the young centre-back and moved forward to renew the contract of the Portuguese international, in a clear signal of the importance the defender has earned in Marco Silva's squad.
Negotiations to extend the contract are progressing positively and an understanding between the parties is very close. Tomás Araújo is expected to renew with Benfica until 2031, in an agreement that also includes a significant salary increase. The information was first reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The centre-back had a contract with the Eagles until 2029, but the structure led by Rui Costa understood that it was necessary to review the player's conditions, given the development he has shown and the role he has come to play in the first team.
The renewal process proceeded swiftly, mainly because Tomás Araújo never posed obstacles to the discussions, demonstrating mutual willingness to continue the sporting project.
