Ponte da Barca hosts, between September 1st and 4th, the Olimpics4all initiative, an event dedicated to the senior population that brings together teams from across the district of Viana do Castelo. The Municipal Council of Ponte da Barca is the promoting entity of the event, which aims to promote sports practice, socialization and fellowship among participants, contributing to the well-being and better quality of life of seniors.
The program takes place over four days and combines competition, physical activity, fellowship and entertainment. On the first day, the delegations were received at Praça Terras da Nóbrega, followed by a parade to the Town Hall and the opening ceremony. The competitions include traditional modalities such as malha, petanque and boccia, team sports such as volleyball, football and basketball, swimming, athletics with 800-meter events, 4x100-meter relay, medicine ball throw and vortex throw, as well as rope skipping competition.
The event ends on September 4th with the final phases of the competitions and a closing dinner. The organization aims to demonstrate that sports practice has no age limit, assuming an important role in promoting health, physical and emotional well-being and in preventing social isolation. By bringing together teams from across the district, Olimpics4all also creates an opportunity to strengthen relations between communities and encourage active participation of the senior population.
