According to the OLX Group's FY26 Impact Report, buying a used car allows Portuguese people to save, on average, €2,890 compared to acquiring a new vehicle. In the case of motorcycles, the difference reaches €1,539. Those who sell these items in the used market also obtain a financial return of €8,537 per car and €2,676 per motorcycle sold. The report analyzed seven markets, including Portugal, between April 2025 and March 2026.

Globally, over 5.9 million used products were transacted in the electronics, vehicles, and auto parts categories during that period. These operations would have avoided the consumption of approximately 155 billion liters of water and 861,000 tons of materials, in addition to savings of 31.9 million gigajoules of energy and a reduction of approximately 1.78 million tons of CO₂ equivalent.

In the specific case of automobiles, each reused vehicle represents an estimated reduction of 1,262 kilograms of CO₂ equivalent, 119,000 liters of water, 697 kilograms of materials, and 23,316 megajoules of energy associated with manufacturing a new car. For auto parts, each transaction avoids 62 kilograms of CO₂ equivalent and 2,290 liters of water.

Pedro Soares, Head of Sales at Standvirtual, considered that the results reflect the growing importance of the used market, associating economic accessibility with extending the use of vehicles and their components. The report analyzes four indicators to measure the impact of reuse: materials, water, energy, and carbon emissions.
