CAAA hosts Tales Frey's exhibition on consumption, memory and the fashion industry's impact

The Centro de Arte e Arquitectura (CAAA) in Guimarães receives until October 31 the exhibition "When a Body is No Longer Present," by artist Tales Frey. The show transforms remnants of discarded clothing into sculptures and installations that evoke absent memories, identities and stories, inviting visitors to look beyond the discarded object.

The artist seeks to highlight what often remains invisible in a society marked by disposability and excessive consumption. Clothes cease to be viewed as waste to assume the role of silent testimonies of human lives and experiences, questioning the accelerated production and consumption models characteristic of the fast fashion phenomenon.

The exhibition emerges in a context of growing environmental concerns, alerting to the impacts of the textile industry, considered one of the most polluting in the world. The presented works aim to stimulate critical thinking about the relationship between the body, consumption, memory and collective responsibility.

Tales Frey simultaneously presents in Portugal a cycle of two solo exhibitions during the month of September. The second, "In Suspension," will be inaugurated on September 25 at the Museu Nacional do Traje in Lisbon, on National Sustainability Day. Together, the two projects reused approximately one ton of discarded clothes. Represented by Galeria Verve in São Paulo and Shame Gallery in Brussels, Tales Frey is a post-doctoral researcher and auxiliary researcher at the University of Minho, having presented works at international institutions such as The Kitchen in New York and the Museu d'Arte Contemporanea di Roma.

The combination of blue with red has become the trend of the moment, dominating street style, runways, and Pinterest. Red, which was previously used only as an accent (in shoes or bags), now seeks company, especially the tomato red seen in brands like Valentino, Balenciaga, and Carolina Herrera. Blue was the chosen partner in summer shows from Celine, Jil Sander, and Loewe, and the trend continued in Prada's winter collection. The combination works well for the upcoming hot season, allowing bold looks with two strong colors.
