The basic urgency service of Moimenta da Beira has been without stretchers for more than nine months, leaving patients accommodated in wheelchairs. The situation caused a significant impact on the care of users who resort to this health unit.
INEM ambulances end up being retained for hours at the urgency service, unable to make new evacuations while they wait for the transfer of patients to stretchers. This retention harms the response capacity of the National Institute of Medical Emergency.
The worsening of the situation occurred at the end of last year, when the urgency service had to remove several old stretchers that no longer met safety conditions. Since then, they have not been replaced by new stretchers, keeping the problem without resolution.
