Anxiety disorders are among the most frequent mental health problems in the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 359 million people lived with some anxiety disorder in 2021, equivalent to 4.4% of the world population.
In Brazil, WHO estimates from 2015 indicated a prevalence of 9.3% of the population, meaning approximately 9 in every 100 Brazilians lived with some anxiety disorder in that survey.
Factors such as transformations in work relationships, economic insecurity, hyperconnectivity, social networks, and social changes are part of a scenario in which stress and psychological suffering have gained space in the public health debate.
Among the available treatments are psychotherapy, lifestyle changes, and anxiolytic and antidepressant medications. A study published in the journal Ciência & Saúde Coletiva, with data from the National System for Controlled Products Management, analyzes the use of medicinal cannabis as a therapeutic alternative for these disorders.
