Lara, 4 years old, daughter of singer Junior Lima and his wife Mônica Benini, was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome, a rare condition that affects the kidneys and causes excessive loss of proteins in the urine. The couple revealed last year that the disease initially appeared as an allergy in the girl's eye, causing swelling in the area. They sought doctors, specialists, and allergists until they were able to arrive at the correct diagnosis.
Nephrotic syndrome can be congenital, although it is rare in this form, or acquired due to secondary health problems, such as infectious diseases, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, hepatitis, or systemic diseases, including lupus. There are also cases where the disease is genetically transmitted.
In a recent interview with publication Quem, Junior Lima updated his daughter's health status. According to the singer, Lara continues to be monitored by doctors and showed positive progress during the treatment period.
Among the symptoms of nephrotic syndrome are swelling in the ankles, feet, and face, malaise, and abdominal pain and swelling.
