German inflation accelerates to 2.9% in August driven by energy prices

SAPO31 August 2026 at 14:05

German inflation accelerated to 2.9% in August, driven mainly by rising energy prices. This rate represents an acceleration compared to previous months, reflecting growing pressure on consumers.

According to provisional data published by the German statistics office Destatis, the consumer price index recorded a positive variation of 0.1% compared to July. This slight monthly increase contributes to the acceleration of the annual inflation rate.

Destatis is the official body responsible for collecting and publishing economic statistics in Germany, being the primary source of this data on price developments in the country.

This inflationary scenario occurs at a time when the German economy faces several challenges, with the energy sector playing a significant role in pressure on consumer prices.

India's growth beats expectations in the second quarter with 7.8%

The Indian economy beat expectations, growing 7.8% in the second quarter of fiscal year 2027 (April to June), above the 7% projected by the central bank, although there was a slight slowdown compared to 8.6% in the previous quarter. Growth was driven by robust domestic consumption, public spending, investment, and the strong performance of the tertiary sectors (financial, real estate, and technology) and industry (9.2%). Conversely, the agricultural sector faced difficulties due to delayed monsoons, and the mining sector contracted 2.4%. Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the result as a "Herculean feat," stating that India flourished despite the energy shocks caused by the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz.
