The Municipal Council of Angra do Heroísmo joined the opening of the VIII edition of the Hortênsia Music Festival, which takes place between September 1st and 10th in several emblematic spaces of the city, including the Sé Cathedral, the Palace of the Captains-General, and the Teatro Angrense. The festival has established itself over the years as a reference in the cultural programming of the city and the island of Terceira.
The current edition has the theme "Musical Eruption", establishing a symbolic connection with Azorean identity, evoking the force of nature that shaped the archipelago and the capacity for transformation that characterizes musical creation. The programming crosses different musical universes, heritage, innovation, emerging talent, and major performers.
The President of the Municipal Council, Fátima Amorim, highlighted that the festival «is not limited to bringing music to Angra do Heroísmo, but creates in Angra do Heroísmo», underscoring its role in affirming the city as a place of creation and artistic valorization. She also highlighted the world premiere of the new Quartet with Piano No. 2 – Heimat, by António Pinho Vargas, a work commissioned by the festival itself.
The VIII edition features Director Tamila Kharambura and Artistic Director Paul Tulloch, and includes initiatives such as workshops and the Rising Stars, focusing on audience development and the valorization of young performers. The President of the municipality expressed recognition to all musicians, technicians, partners, sponsors, and institutions involved in making the event happen.
