With the return to classes, the president of the Spanish Society of Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine (SERMEF), Helena Bascuñana, warns families about the risks of school backpacks that are too heavy for children's backs.
Bascuñana warns that the backpack should not become a "portable little house" where books, notebooks, computers, water bottles, and all types of school materials accumulate.
According to the specialist, the backpack should be emptied every day and prepared for the following day according to the school schedule. Only the materials that are truly necessary should be included.
Additionally, the load should be distributed correctly and the backpack should be carried well-adjusted with both straps, thus avoiding postural problems in children.
