Ambulance from Paredes de Coura Firefighters Stopped Due to "Excessive Bureaucracy"

Alto Minho31 August 2026 at 13:30

An ambulance from the Volunteer Firefighters of Paredes de Coura remains inoperational due to bureaucratic processes between the Instituto da Mobilidade e dos Transportes (IMT) and INEM. The alert was given by the president of the board of the corps, José Alves, during the centenary ceremony of the firefighters.

According to José Alves, the ambulance has been stopped for months, after an inspection at the IMT that took a long time due to lack of human resources, and is now awaiting a response from INEM. The leader considers the delays "excessive and harmful", as they prevent a vehicle from being available to help the population.

The centenary ceremony was also marked by the arrival of a new urban firefighting vehicle, an investment of 240 thousand euros. The situation contrasts with the reinforcement of the corps' resources in the year it celebrates 100 years of activity.
