Claudio Echeverri is close to becoming a Benfica player on loan. The 20-year-old Argentine attacking midfielder has reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with the red club, with only the conclusion of negotiations between Benfica's SAD and Manchester City, the player's current club, remaining.
Benfica's plan is to secure Echeverri on loan for one season, including an option to buy. If the operation is completed, the young Argentine will subsequently sign a contract until 2031, meaning a four-year contract with the Eagles. In this way, Benfica receives the player at the Estádio da Luz while Manchester City maintains decision margin over the player's future.
Benfica's interest in Echeverri is not recent. The Portuguese club had already tried to sign him in 2023, when the Argentine was still representing River Plate. At the time, the amounts involved were considered too high by Benfica, which led Manchester City to proceed and secure the player for 18.5 million euros.
The information about the proximity of the agreement was reported by Nicolò Schira, a transfer market specialist.
