An innovative project managed to ensure the follow-up of 103 pregnant women who did not have a family doctor, all in just three months. This initiative represents a response to the lack of family doctors available to follow these women during pregnancy.
The project is based on a nursing experience that has shown positive results in the follow-up of these pregnant women. Nursing professionals have assumed a central role in the surveillance and prenatal follow-up of these women.
The experience started in the city of Leiria, but will now be expanded to other municipalities in the district. This expansion aims to bring this model of care to more pregnant women who are without a family doctor throughout the region.
