Apple has intensified its legal dispute against OpenAI by filing a new motion with the court alleging that the artificial intelligence company is actively destroying crucial evidence for the case. The document, filed on Monday, supports Apple's request to accelerate discovery before trial. OpenAI had previously requested that the case be dismissed.
The motion also states that former iPhone engineer Chang Liu, who left Apple to work at OpenAI in January, "not only downloaded a confidential Apple circuit schematic, but also used it in his work" at the new company. Liu occupies a central position in the lawsuit accusing the creator of ChatGPT of trade secrets theft.
Chang Liu is described as one of over 400 former Apple employees who have joined OpenAI's team, a company that has been expanding its presence in the hardware devices market. According to Apple's latest motion, OpenAI provided "only recently" a key piece of evidence, suggesting that the company may have delayed delivering important documents for the case.
