The fifth business day of September 2026 will be on Saturday, September 5th, which is the deadline for paying salaries referring to the previous month to formal employees in Brazil.
This rule is provided for in article 459 of the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT), which determines that salary must be paid, at the latest, by the fifth business day of the following month worked.
For this calculation, Saturday is considered a business day, even when the employee does not work on that day. Sundays and holidays, on the other hand, are not included in the count. Thus, in September, the first business day will be on Tuesday, September 1st; the second, Wednesday (2nd); the third, Thursday (3rd); the fourth, Friday (4th); and the fifth, Saturday (5th).
