The production and commercialization rules for wines with Denomination of Origin (DO) "Alentejo" and Geographic Indication (GI) "Alentejano" have been changed. The new specifications are contained in a Notice published on Monday, March 31st.
The changes cover three main areas. The first relates to the age of the vines, establishing new requirements for production. The second concerns talha wine, a traditional wine from the region, which now has new specific rules. The third change relates to the altitude of production areas in the Portalegre sub-region.
These changes directly affect wine producers in the Alentejo region, who will have to comply with the new specifications in order to commercialize their products under the DO "Alentejo" or GI "Alentejano" designations.
